Wissahickon Wanderers Welcome Back on My Feet

Wissahickon Wanderers host charity event for homeless organization.

One local running club hosts its annual philanthropic event Tuesday to aid an organization that helps the homeless.

Back on My Feet, a nonprofit dedicated to "creating independence and self-sufficiency" for the homeless, partners with Wissahickon Wanderers running club for a third year of track and field events at Roxborough High School. 

From 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night, people can participate in a variety of events, with registration costs going to the nonprofit. Events include:

  • 400-meter dash
  • 1-mile run
  • 3200-meter run
  • 800-meter dash
  • 400-, 800-, 1200-meter, and mile-long relays

A national group, Back on My Feet partners with shelters, donors and volunteers to coordinate runs throughout the week with the homeless in Philadelphia. The group's mission is to give "confidence, strength and self-esteem through dedication to running." There are three morning runs each week, with longer, optional runs on Saturdays.

On Tuesday night, Wissahickon Wanderers hosts the nonproft's 150 members for the athletic event and postgame barbecue. Proceeds from the races go to Back on My Feet, with the Drumcliff Foundation providing a matching gift of up to $2,000.

Formed in 2000, the Wissahickon Wanderers welcomes runners of all different levels and abilities. The group is primarily based in Northwest Philadelphia and has an active online presence with message board.

It costs $5 to register for the first event and $3 for each additional event. Relay teams cost $5. People may also pay $10 for unlimited access.

The track is located behind the high school, 4701 Pechin St.
