Gorgas Park is a verdant oasis on Ridge Avenue. It is a sprawling public recreation area with a variety of options. Named for the Gorgas Family, who settled the area in the seventeenth century, the park was dedicated in 1895 and revitalized in the 1990s. Today, Gorgas Park offers a playground, gazebo, war memorial, baseball field, gardens and a host of benches dotting its lush greens. The Friends of Gorgas Park raise money and continue to improve the grounds, and the Philadelphia Recreation Department issues permits for usage.
