Power briefly went out in the Andorra Shopping Center this afternoon.
Roxborough Patch has gotten reports from Pizzeria DiMeo's that power in the Andorra Shopping Center went out at approximately 2:30 p.m. They reported back at 2:45 p.m. that the power was back on. With the oncoming storm and blustery conditions, power outages could be expected throughout the area. According to the National Weather Service: THERE IS THE CHANCE THAT ENOUGH WET SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE ON LIMBS AND WIRES AND COUPLED WITH THE WIND TO CAUSE SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES. BE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE POWER OUTAGES. Experts say that the Philadelphia area could see between 2 and 2 inches of snow overnight with wind gusts up to 45 mph. The Roxborough eatery will begin serving pizza again on Thursday after a couple of days off to install a new oven.
While the name is still a mouthful, Pizzeria DiMeo's Ristorante Napoletano will offer a full menu once again on Thursday after their new pizza oven was installed this week. According to the restaurant's Facebook page, DiMeo's recently installed a brand new Valoriani wood fire oven from Italy. The restaurant was closed on Monday as the new oven was installed, but it reopened again on Tuesday with a limited menu. Right now, staff is busy curing the oven so that it is ready for business. Curing is the process of building larger and larger fires in the oven over an extended period of time in order to remove excess moisture from the manufactoring process.

Two Northwest vets are expanding their services to include pet acupuncture.
As a veterinary doctor, Dr. Micki Mooney is available for surgeries, routine wellness vists and medical patient visits in animals; all the things one usually takes their pet to the vet for. However, Dr. Mooney offers a service that is a little less common: veterinary acupuncture. Dr. Mooney will be offering this service at both the Mr. Airy Animal Hospital and the Andorra Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Mooney, a New Jersey native, attended Rutgers University, where she received a BS in Animal Science with a minor in economics. She earned her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. Henry Avenue apartment complex residents report crimes in early October.
Four separate residents from apartments at 8200 Henry Ave. experienced break-ins earlier in October, Philadelphia Police said. On Oct. 1, three residents from the apartment complex said they were victimized by a burglar, while a fourth person said someone tried to break-in to his apartment. A female resident called police to the apartment and reported an overnight break-in. Police found her front door pried open. She reported $1,000 in items taken, including an X-Box, HP laptop and cash taken from her bedroom nightstand. While on scene, police noticed similar prying marks on nearby property. Ridge Avenue conflict resulted in aggravated assault, police said.
A Ridge Avenue traffic incident resulted in one person getting sprayed with a harmful substance, Philadelphia Police reported. While driving along the 9100 block of Ridge Avenue in Andorra, a man told police he was involved in a traffic dispute Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. According to his police report, the man said he "accidentally cut off" another motorist, who was driving a tan Ford Crown Victoria with a disability tag. The other driver then pulled his car up to the person's vehicle, rolled his window down and sprayed him with an unknown substance in the man's face and mouth. Yogurt and insurance shops opening soon.
The Andorra Shopping Center readies itself for two new businesses at the busy plaza. Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt and Farmers Insurance Group will join other businesses located at 8500 Henry Ave. The new stores are only a few doors down from each other, the Andorra Machismo's Burrito Bar is the only shop between them. Local supermarkets are spared the axe from SuperValu cuts.
Although 38 supermarkets—including three in the Delaware Valley—will close due to underperformance, the two Roxborough-area Acmes will survive. Corporate owner Supervalu Inc. announced Wednesday in a news release that it will close about 60 stores, including 38 supermarkets, that are deemed "underperforming or non-strategic." The chain, which owns Malvern-based Acme, spared the Roxborough and Andorra stores. Timothy Zgrzepski charged with six felony counts in botched July robbery attempt.
The alleged burglar involved in a July 23 incident where a Bucks County police officer shot and killed the accused's partner in crime was charged with six felony counts and has a $350,000 bail, court records indicate. Tim Zgrzepski, 29, was charged with criminal conspiracy, burglary, carjacking, criminal trespass, theft/unlawful taking, theft—receiving stolen property, and possession of an instrument of crime, Philadelphia Police spokesperson Officer Christine O'Brien said Monday. Petco and ACCT Philly in Andorra Shopping Center is lowering adoption fees due to an influx of strays, unwanted cats and kittens.
Animal control is frantic to find felines new homes, due to a slight increase in kittens born recently. Carolyn Fitzgerald, volunteer coordinator for animal care and control team of Philadelphia, said that unusually mild winter temperatures lengthened mating season for outdoor cats. As a result, more unwanted kittens are funneling through the shelter. “We have what’s called kitten season,” she said. “It’s a lot longer [this year] because we had a cold winter.” But it’s not just kittens. There are several unwanted and stray cats being taken in as well. Fitzgerald said the shelter has taken in 1,163 cats from July 8 to 21. Warminster Police Officer shoots one of two intruders on 8700 block of Sagamore Road.
