Black Friday Guide: Store Hours

To take advantage of the Black Friday deals, you want to make sure you get in the door, while the sale items are still on the shelves, so when do doors open?

Stores across the Philadelphia area are opening early, even as early as Thursday night to start their Black Friday deals. Here are the adjusted hours Patch found: Kohl’s opens at midnight. Kmart opens at 8pm Thursday and stays open through 3am, then reopens at 5am. Target will open at 9 p.m. Thursday. Walmart, Marple Crossroads Shopping Center (Marple Township), 400 S. State Rd, Springfield, opens at 8 p.m. Thursday. Black Friday begins Thanksgiving evening for many big stores, trying to get a jump on Christmas shopping. Will you go shopping after Thanksgiving dinner?

Back at the turn of the century, Christmas and holiday shopping started in earnest on the day after Thanksgiving. A few years later the big stores, grappling with a downturn in the economy, started opening at midnight and offering "Midnight Madness" deals for people who came in the middle of the night. Now, stores are creating quite a stir by opening even earlier. Many are advertising sales beginning Thanksgiving at 8p.m.  It's not as easy to come up with alliteration for an 8 p.m. store opening. Black Friday & Small Business Saturday Kick Off Holiday Season in Roxborough-Manayunk

A number of local stores have deals and sale going on Friday and Saturday.

Black Friday, and now Small Business Saturday, officially kick off the holiday season and there are a number of deals in Roxborough and Manayunk that don't require you to be in line at 3 a.m. Avid runners can head down to Bryn Mawr Running Co. for a number of in-store sales Friday and Saturday. Rather shop on the Ridge? Sneakertown is offering a number of deals Friday. Beans will be offering a buy one, get one free sale as well as grab bag deals.They will also be participating in Small Business Saturday. The Spiral Bookcase is also promising some surprises in the store on Saturday. Spectrum Scientific said it is still working on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday deals.
