Looks like Manayunk will get a bike race in 2013 after all. According to Philly.com, Congressman Bob Brady announced that the Philly Cycling Classic, which will be organized by "a team of sports event professionals" will be held in Manayunk this year. From Philly.com: “The Mayor has called for a premier cycling event and the team we have pulled together intends to deliver nothing less for the City of Philadelphia in 2013,” Brady said in a statement. “As long as there is a Wall in Manayunk there will be a world class cycling event in Philadelphia.” Read the full story here. The Manayunk Development Corporation and Congressman Bob Brady are holding a meeting with city officials Friday.
The Manayunk Bike Race might not be dead yet. According to a release from the Manayunk Development Corporation, the group has partnered with Congressman Bob Brady to meet with race officials and try to "save the bike race." ""We at MDC greatly appreciate Congressman Brady's offer of help," executive director Jane Lipton said in a release.. "The Congressman understands the value of civic institutions like the bike race and has a well-earned reputation as someone who can bring all sides together and find a resolution. We're hopeful that the 2013 bike race can be saved."
