Two Civic Groups to Meet Wednesday

A look at local community groups this week.

Two neighborhood groups will meet Wednesday night. Both the Upper Roxborough Civic Association and the Wissahickon Interested Citizens Association will gather to discuss local issues Nov. 14. Covering Wissahickon—bordered by Henry and Ridge Avenues, Wissahickon Park, and Hermit Street—WICA will start its meeting at 7 p.m. in the board room of Northern Children's Services, 5301 Ridge Ave. WICA Vice President Chip Roller said the agenda includes: The Upper Roxborough Civic Association meets Wednesday Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Roxborough Presbyterian Church.

When Do Civic Associations Meet?

Summer recess ends for neighborhood groups.

Move over back-to-school readers, Roxborough and Manayunk prepare for back-to-civic season. Like schools and Philadelphia City Council, civic associations often take recesses for July and August. Although developers can pitch proposals that require zoning variances to boards from the civic groups, by-and-large whole public meetings are put on the back burner until the fall. Below is a listing of some local civic associations, where they meet, and when they'll start up again. Note that the Wissahickon Neighbors Civic Association usually meets the first Monday of a month, but it pushed the date back due to Labor Day.
