Local's Book on Manayunk Offers Rich History
Thom Nickels's family lived the Manayunk history he wrote of in his 'Images of America' book
For Images of America: Manayunk author Thom Nickels, history, writing and Manayunk go hand-in-hand. Nickels knew he was interested in writing at a young age, often regaling his young classmates with stories they would clamor for and again. He hailed from a family of architects, an interest that runs through some of his other books, including another Images of America book about architecture in Philadelphia. “I think that the penchant for building and designing things can cross currents into other disciplines,” Nickels said. “Building a novel is a form of word architecture.
