iPad Stolen at SuperFresh, Police Say

A man's iPad is taken after he forgets it in his shopping cart.

Surveillance footage captured an employee at SuperFresh taking a customer’s iPad on April 29, police said. A man was shopping at the SuperFresh located at 7162 Ridge Ave., when he left his iPad in a shopping cart, police said. The man asked the cart boy if he’d seen it, and police said that the cart boy responded “no.” Store surveillance video later showed that the cart boy was in possession of the iPad, police said.

Laptop Stolen from Vehicle, Police Say

Burglars smash a car window and steal a laptop.

Thieves smashed a car window and stole over $1,400 worth of items from a car parked in the 5200 block of Hermit Lane on April 18. The owner of the vehicle parked the car and then went jogging, police said.  While the man jogged, thieves smashed the right rear window of his 2002 Hyundai and took several items from the vehicle. The stolen items included a bag containing a MacBook Pro laptop, a bible and an external hard drive.

$20,000 in Copper Stolen from Ridge Ave. Building, Police Say

Burglars make off with $20,000 in copper piping.

The owner of a property located in the 6000 block of Ridge Avenue reported to police that more than $20,000 in copper piping has been stolen from the premises.  The owner told police that between 3 p.m. on April 15 and 9 a.m. on April 17 the rear door of the vacant property was forced open and sections of piping were removed from various rooms in the building. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Philadelphia 5th police district at 215-686-3050.

School Bathroom Fire Ruled Arson, Police Say

A secretary notices smoke coming from a second-floor bathroom.

A fire started in the bathroom of a school located in the 200 block of Spring Lane has been ruled an arson by the fire marshal. The school’s secretary called 911 after she saw smoke coming from a second floor girl’s bathroom, police say. A custodian at the school extinguished the fire before officials arrived on the scene. The fire itself had been started in a 30-gallon trashcan, police said, and no injuries were reported. There were no witnesses or cameras in the area.  Police ask that anyone with more information please contact the Philadelphia 5th police district at 215-686-3050.

Man Stabbed in the Face, Police Say

A man is attacked at the Restaurant Depot.

A man had to be treated for facial wounds at Roxborough Hospital on April 30, after he was attacked with a steak knife at the Restaurant Depot located at 5002 Ridge Ave, according to police. The man who was attacked got into an argument with another man inside the store at approximately 3 p.m., police said. One of the men left the store and went out to his car, police said. When he returned, he had a six-inch steak knife in his hand and stabbed the other man on the left side of his face with it, police said. The assailant then left the scene in a black Range Rover, police said. Police obtained the license plate of the Range Rover, and an arrest was made.

Woman at Bible Study When Home Broken Into

Another man has a reflective stolen vest stolen.

Burglary: On April 22, at approximately 9:30 p.m., police received a report of a burglary in the 800 block of Scotia Road.  According to police, while the homeowner was away at bible study, someone entered the residence through the front living room window.  Police say that several items were stolen, including two watches. Theft: On April 29, at approximately 12:15 p.m., police received a report of a theft in the 600 block of Flamingo Street.  According to police, someone entered the unlocked car and stole a bright green and yellow protective safety vest. Handgun Stolen from Roxborough Home, Police Say

Someone also steals a metal gas can from a driveway.

Burglary: On April 15, police received a report of a theft in the 400 block of Markle Street at 4:50 p.m.  According to police, someone removed the lockbox from the door of the home located at that address and entered the home.  Police said that the living room and bedroom were ransacked and that several items were taken from the residence.  The stolen items include a nine-millimeter handgun, an LED television and a digital camera.  Police value the stolen items at more than $2,000. Theft: On April 29, at approximately 8:30 a.m., police received a report of a theft in the 400 block of Leverington Avenue.  According to police, someone cut the registration sticker off of a car parked on that street. Road Rage Incident Leads to Pulled Gun, Police Say

A man also thwarts a burglary attempt.

Burglary: On April 29, at approximately 12:05 p.m., police received a report of an attempted burglary in the 5900 block of Henry Avenue.  According to police, a man was sitting in his home when he heard through the door someone say, “Don’t leave the package.  Ain’t nobody home.”  The police said that the man watched through his peephole as two men cut the lockbox on his doorknob and attempted to gain entrance to his home.  The man opened the front door, police said, and then the two men grabbed a duffle bag and ran away to their vehicle. Vodka Stolen in Roxborough, Police Say

A cell phone is stolen from an unlocked truck in an unrelated police report.

Theft: On April 6, police received a report of a theft at the Pennsylvania Wine and Spirits Store located at 7146 Ridge Ave.  According to police, an employee reviewing surveillance footage saw a man take a bottle of New Amsterdam Peach and Red Berry vodka from the store on March 26.  Police say that the man took the vodka and fled the store without paying. Theft: On April 4, at approximately 1 p.m., police received a report of a theft in the 600 block of Gorgas Lane.  According to police, a cell phone was stolen from an unlocked truck parked on the street.

$3,600 Worth of Items Stolen from Car, Police Say

Thieves break into a vehicle on Wises Mill Road.

Theft: On April 7, at approximately 2:40 p.m., police received a report of a theft in the 800 block of Wises Mill Road.  According to police, an unknown person broke the right rear window of a vehicle parked on the street.  Police say that a Coach pocketbook, an iPad and a laptop were stolen from the vehicle.  Police value the stolen items at $3,600.
