RDC hosts public meeting on avenue improvements.
Preserving the historical character of Roxborough at large and Lyceum Avenue in particular proved a significant issue throughout 2012. While some properties met the bulldozer, other property owners capitalized on preservation grants to better their home. The Roxborough Development Corporation continues its plans to preserve the character of Lyceum Avenue with a meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. In 2012, the RDC secured a grant for Lyceum Avenue homeowners (living from Ridge to Pechin streets) interested in historic preservation. Preservation Alliance presents month-long Roxborough workshops.
In connection with a recent grant bestowed on the Roxborough Development Corporation, the Preservation Alliance kicks off a month of free homeowner workshops. Starting Wednesday at the RDC office, 6111 Ridge Ave., the regional historic preservation group offers four weekly sessions on various home repair subjects. Each workshop is free but requires advanced registration. The classes include info on: Each sessions starts at 6:30 p.m., and the program runs through April 25. To residents, the area around Lyceum Avenue and Green Lane is more than city block—it's a neighborhood. Through cleanups, regular potluck dinners, and simple communication, homeowners now boast of a rebirth for the Roxborough neighborhood.
