Serial Bank Robber Caught, Police Say

Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for nine area bank robberies in the past three weeks, including two on Roxborough.

Police have charged Philadelphia resident Tarik Hooks with multiple counts of bank robbery after they say he robbed nine banks in three weeks in the Philadelphia area. Starting on Feb. 2, police say Hooks robbed several banks from Bala Cynwyd to Drexel Hill, including the TD Bank located at 5501 Ridge Ave. Hooks attempted to rob the Roxborough TD Bank on two separate occasions just three days apart, police say.  According to police, the first attempted robbery occurred on Feb. 14 and the second occurred on Feb. 17.  Hooks managed to make off with more than $1,200 in the second robbery, police say. Alleged Attempted Bank Robber Photos Released

FBI agents are looking for a man involved in an attempted bank robbery on Ridge Avenue Thursday morning.

The following photos and information are provided by the Philadelphia branch of the FBI. The Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI are seeking the public’s assistance to identify and locate the subject responsible for this [Thursday] morning’s attempted robbery of the TD Bank branch located at 5501 Ridge Avenue in the city’s Roxborough section.   At approximately 10:20 a.m., the subject entered the bank and passed a teller a demand note. The subject eventually fled the area of the bank without obtaining any money.   The subject is described as a black male in his late 20s to early 30s, approximately 5’10” tall, with a goatee and glasses. Attempted Bank Robbery on Ridge Ave, FBI Says

Authorities are reporting that the TD Bank at 5501 Ridge was robbed Thursday morning.

The following information has been provided by the Philadelphia branch of the FBI: Philadelphia Police and FBI representatives are investigating an attempted bank robbery that took place in Roxborough Thursday morning. According to a release from the Philadelphia branch of the FBI, an unknown man entered the TD Bank at 5501 Ridge Avenue at approximately 10:20 a.m. Thursday morning and presented a teller with a note demanding money. It is unclear at this time if the unknown man left the bank with any money. Authorities describe the man as being in his late 20s, approximately 5'10", goatee, and wearing a dark jacket and gloves at the time of the incident. Lack of Funds Key in Bike Race Cancellation

Without a primary sponsor for the event, the Manayunk Bike Race looks done for 2013.

In a press conference Monday afternoon, Jane Lipton, the executive director of the Manayunk Development Corporation, said that a loss of primary sponsorship is the main factor in the cancelation of the 2013 Manayunk Bike Race. "After speaking with [David Chaune, organizer for the Philadelphia International Cycling Championship] this morning, he told me that TD Bank did not decide to renew its sponsorship this year and that the do not have a lead sponsor," she said. "Tied to increased costs, you get an inability to have a race this year."
