Annual holiday ceremony kicks of season Dec. 1.
Manayunk gets a jump on the holiday season Saturday with its annual winter festivities throughout the day. With a tree lighting ceremony, Santa on Ice and, of course, the Main Street shopping available, Manayunk welcomes residents and out-of-towners to enjoy some holiday cheer. For the past several years, the Manayunk Development Corporation has cultivated a relationship with professional ice carvers, which culminated with two Manayunk on Ice festivals. That continues Saturday as Santa Claus himself comes to Main Street. He will receive children so they can share their Christmas wishes, seated on a throne of ice. Professional ice carver Rob Capone will carve Santa’s sleigh out of a block of ice, staring at 1 p.m. Santa will see kids …

Looking to get into the holiday spirit? It shouldn't be too hard in Manayunk. A tree lighting ceremony in Canal View Park will be the city's first light of this season. The festivities will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and feature caroling, an appearance by the big man himself-Santa Claus and an outdoor bridal show by Nicole Miller, part of the shop's White Friday event. Hot cocoa, festive treats and B101 will also be part of the rain or shine event.
