The Central Roxborough Civic Association wants resident opinions on the former Bunting House site.
The Central Roxborough Civic Association sent out a survey asking residents for their opinions about whether or not a fast food restaurant should be built at 5901 Ridge Ave., the former site of the Bunting House. Last week, the owners and developers of the site, the Giovannone Brothers, met with members of the community to discuss ideas for the site. “Wendy’s is not set in stone,” Frank Giovannone told the crowd of more than 100 gathered for the Central Roxborough Civic Association last week. “We are concerned about how people feel.” Several residents at the meeting expressed a strong desire for something other than a fast food restaurant to be built on the site. Among the suggested development plans were a Panera Bread, an Olive Garden…

A representative for Councilman Curtis Jones says that no deal with Wendy's has been made.
A representative for Councilman Curtis Jones told the Wissahickon Neighbors Civic Association on Monday that the former site of the Bunting House will not necessarily become a Wendy’s. Josh Cohen, who works for Councilman Jones, said that the owners of the property are looking to put a fast food restaurant on the site, but that no deal has been reached with Wendy’s. “The plan that they submitted to the planning commission was for a generic fast food restaurant,” Cohen said. “It did not say Wendy’s on it.” Cohen also said that Wendy's has been discussed for the property, but no agreement has been made. Cohen added that the owners of the property, Giovannone Construction, Inc., would explore all their options before building, and that they …

A Roxborough resident speaks out against the Wendy's proposal in a letter to the editor.
Editor's Note: The following is a letter to the editor submitted by Patch user M. Sweeny Not long ago, the Roxborough Development Corporation led a contest to create a new tag line for our unique community. The winner: “Family, Community, Nature since 1690.” A tag line is a window into an organization’s vision for its work. I would like to ask the RDC and local leadership to look very closely into Wendy’s bid to take up residence at the corner of Roxborough and Ridge Avenues, and ask themselves how Wendy’s will advance their vision, our vision, for our community. I have lived in Roxborough since 2002. I have strived to better my 1918 home, have taken pride in my neighborhood, say hello to my neighbors as I walk my dog (whom everyone knows…

One Roxborough resident doesn't understand what all the fuss is about.

Roxborough residents have started a petition to stop the construction of a Wendy's at the corner of Roxborough and Ridge avenues.
About 400 Roxborough residents have already signed an oline petition protesting the construction of a Wendy's at the corner of Roxborough and Ridge avenues. It was announced on Friday that former site of the historic Bunting House would be converted into a Wendy's fast food restaurant. Hilary Langer who signed the petition at change.org wrote her reasons he didn't want the Wendy's constructed: Because we do not want generic, drive through, ordinary, bad for you and bad for the neighborhood. The character of Roxborough will not become Anywheresville, USA. Go read about healthy neighborhoods - its about walkability and diversity, not driveability and boring. Cynthia Leung added: The neighborhood has worked tirelessly at revitalizing. The …

The property where the old Victorian home once stood is slated to become a Wendy's
Developers in charge of construction on the site of the former Bunting House revealed plans on Friday to build a Wendy's fast food restaurant where the historic home once stood, according to Central Roxborough Civic Association lawyer Hal Schirmer. Constructed in the 1880s, the Victorian style home located at 5901 Ridge Ave. was demolished in mid-December after several civic organizations petitioned the city to stop its destruction. Giovannone Construction, Inc. went ahead with the demolition after a Court of Common Pleas Judge denied an injunction filed by the Central Roxborough Civic Association and other civic organizations. At the hearing in Dec., Hal Schirmer, attorney for the neighbors, asserted the city erred in issuing demolition …

What exactly are the boundaries of the community? Live here? Work here? Shop here? I think you said you live somewhere between Roxborough and Manayunk. Is that Limbo? Sounds like you may not live in the Roxborough community.   more ›
