Shawmont Civic Meets Thursday Night

Civic association heads to Andorra Library at 6 p.m. Oct. 11.

The Residents of Shawmont Valley Association will meet Thursday night at 6 p.m. at the Andorra branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, according to an email to members. Civic President David Cellini shared the following agenda:  The library is located at 705 East Cathedral Road.

Self-Checkout in Andorra Could Get You Free Meal

Library branch holds contest to encourage using technology.

Checking a book out by yourself could get you a free meal. Encouraging patrons to utilize its self-checkout options, the Andorra Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia is hosting a contest. "From March 14 through April 14 patrons using the self-checkout, located near the Circulation Desk, can fill out an entry to win either a $25 gift card to Panera or a $50 gift certificate to Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant in Chestnut Hill," librarian Marsha Stender said. Similar to devices at supermarkets, the self-checkout at the library simply scans your library code and item you'd like to borrow. Stender said staff members are available to show you how to use the device. Patrons must be 18 years or older to enter the raffle. The Andorra branch …

Speed Dating Debuts at Andorra Library

Local library hosts dating event Feb. 9.

Looking to fall in love with that special bookworm? The Free Library of Philadelphia will host a free speed-dating extravaganza throughout February in branches across the city, linking literature love nuts up.  “Whether it’s to meet a date for Valentine’s Day or a just a friend with similar taste in books, our speed dating events are a fantastic way of bringing community members together in a wonderful neighborhood resource like the library,” library director Siobhan Reardon said. On Feb. 9, the Andorra Branch presents the event for single men and women between the ages of 25 and 35.
