Bunting House Demo Back On; Lawsuit Proceeds

No progress made on effort to preserve 5901 Ridge Ave.

The historical Bunting Home may face demolition after all, sources said. Developers told neighbors that efforts to find suitable commercial tenants at 5901 Ridge Ave., and plans for demolition at the corner Victorian will proceed, according to multiple sources. In a message to the Manayunk Neighborhood Council, President Kevin Smith shared this update on the Giovannone brother's attempts to find financially viable renters to avert demolition at the former home of Dr. Ross Bunting. "At the meeting, they announced that, over the last two months of calling around, they had no luck with the various chains and local hospitals. Carl Primavera, representing the investors in 5901 Ridge LLC, said that they were prepared to go ahead with their …

LOL Chestnut Hill! Sadly the similarities between Roxborough and Chestnut Hill are very few. Their strong civic groups may play a minor role, but I highly doubt that's why Chestnut Hill has retained it's charm. Are Rental Properties Our Biggest Problem?

Often referenced as such, but is it the biggest issue for Roxborough and Manayunk?

And the Coalition of Civics has cited code enforcement for rental houses as one of its main …

Absentee landlords seem to be a unifying theme between pro- and anti- renters......what strategies can be legally employed to address this issue? It would be beneficial to both renters and owners (I have rented in the past from such a landlord and I undertand that particular circle of hell well). A good, proactive landlord will solve most of the anti-renter concerns.   more ›

Bad Neighbors? Coalition Gives 311 Tips

Coalition of Civics chips away at rental problem.

Since a coalition of Roxborough and Manayunk civic associations began meeting, a main objective is a crackdown on illegal rental houses and disrespectful tenants. Identifying two main avenues for complaints, coalition members shared tips to Manayunk Neighborhood Council and Central Roxborough Civic Association members on how to reach the city and take back their blocks. An outcome of several groups meeting together is better organization. Specifically, member Hillary Langer said neighbors from across Roxborough and Manayunk can ensure Licenses & Inspections codes are properly enforced and that rental licenses are in place. "I think any of us on any block knows where the rentals are, so we can check the list and make sure people are …
