Central Roxborough Civic Association returns from summer hiatus.
There was little to report at Central Roxborough Civic Association’s meeting last night despite state Representative Pam DeLissio being in attendance. Fewer than 10 residents were present for the meeting at Leverington Presbyterian Church on Ridge Avenue. While rumors were passed around that Roxborough Hospital may install a digital sign on its premises, little else was known about the situation. The hospital had not come to CRCA for zoning discussions as of Thursday's meeting. Residents were hopeful that the issue would come before the association soon. Projected opening date set for fall, end of year.
The steps are in place and it may just be formalities before a new gym replaces a massive vacant storefront on Ridge Avenue. With a property sale completed and backing from the Roxborough Development Corporation, Planet Fitness moves closer to opening a 24-hour gym in Roxborough. "We've had very cooperative meetings. They want to do something good for the commercial corridor, and we're behind it," RDC Executive Director Bernard Guet said Monday. Planet Fitness is on their way toward rehabbing a vacant car lot into a new gym on Ridge Avenue. After neighborhood consent, the facility will approach the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment for changes at 6225 Ridge Ave. The Central Roxborough Civic Association received Planet Fitness in December. Civic association approves plan for gym at former car dealership.
Planet Fitness should be coming to Roxborough. After presenting to neighbors in December, the gym secured approval from the Central Roxborough Civic Association and can move forward with its zoning application. Civic President Ed Hothman said Thursday night he polled neighbors in the area and received a positive reaction. The project will transform the vacant Golden Chrysler Plymouth Dealership into a 24-hour basic fitness gym. Most memberships will cost $10 a month.
