Neighbors Say 'No Thanks' to LED Hospital Sign

Roxborough Memorial Hospital goes back to drawing board with sign proposal.

Although civic association members appreciated the local hospital's sentiments, they rejected a proposal for a LED-lit sign on Ridge Avenue. The Central Roxborough Civic Association Nov. 1 requested a different route for new signage at Roxborough Memorial Hospital, disagreeing with a plan for LED lights. After Prime Health Systems purchased the financially floundering Ridge Avenue and installing Peter Adamo as CEO, the facility has worked to improve its grounds. On Thursday, he described additions: better lighting, free parking, improved vegetation management and fencing. "It's a different hospital than it was one year ago," he said. Roxborough Hospital CEO Defends Ownership; State Senator Continues Inquiry

Peter J. Adamo discusses hospital plans and the state Sen. Kitchen's objections.

In what's becoming a "he said, she said" arguement, Roxborough Memorial Hospital's new CEO defended the hospital's ownership, while state Sen. Shirley Kitchen (D-3) pushed for more information regarding medical records practices. Peter J. Adamo took over the struggling Ridge Avenue facility three weeks ago after Prime Healthcare officially purchased it in February. Kitchen's third district covers the hospital, and she's written letters to…

As a matter of fact, the only time I see her name prominently displayed is on a ballot at election time; one has to …   more ›

Roxborough Hospital Takeover Opposed By State Senator

Sen. Shirley Kitchen attempts to stop corporation from securing hospital.

A local state senator is attempting to stop an embattled California-based company from taking over Roxborough Memorial Hospital. In a letter to Pennsylvania Department of Health, state Sen. Shirely Kitchen (D-3) formally objected to Prime Healthcare's acquisition of the 140-bed facility. Both the California state Legislature and FBI have investigated Prime Healthcare's billing process. Citing examples from those investigations, Kitchen decried the corporation's February purchase of the Roxborough hospital from Solaris Healthcare for an undisclosed amount. "Prime hospitals bill Medicare seniors and others for extremely high rates of serious conditions including septicemia, acute heart failure, encephalophy and severe malnutrition," Kitchen …

Roxborough Memorial Hospital is under new management. California-based Prime Healthcare Services announced Wednesday it acquired the 140-bed Ridge Avenue hospital, according to a news release. "We look forward to improving the already excellent care provided at Roxborough Memorial Hospital and continuing the strong relationships with the local physicians and community," Prime Healthcare Chairman Dr. Prem Reddy said in a statement.
